Announcement to the Community

Dear Fairhills HS Community,

On behalf of the Principal Selection Panel, I would like to announce that Ian Van Schie has been appointed as the Principal of Fairhills HS for the next five years.

The panel consisted of myself, Rosina Fotia (Principal of Lilydale Heights College), Kim Morris (elected School Council parent), Silvana La Leggia (elected Staff representative) and School Council President Scott Fraser.

The panel received written applications before shortlisting and interviewing applicants and conducting referee checks. As part of the interview, applicants provided a 10 minute presentation on their vision for Fairhills HS into the future. Ian’s presentation, responses to our questions, as well as referee reports were very impressive with significant impacts made at Ballarat High School where he has been the Senior School Assistant Principal for the last five years, responsible for around 750 students. Ian has led some terrific improvements with their VCE mean study score increasing from under 25 to over 29 in 2019, a reduction in student absences and a 99% VCE and VCAL completion rate with the introduction of a range of strategies and procedures.

We are also very excited about the budget announcements with the investment of over $8 million to upgrade the school’s facilities. Ian has been involved in similar upgrades at his current school and we are sure this will generate a great deal of excitement and interest in the school into the future. I would like to thank the panel for their time and effort and to the School Council for their support.
