Fairhills High School Basketball Academy
The role of the program is to develop the leadership, athletic and academic potential of players. Students are expected to attend school regularly and honour the Student Code of Conduct by upholding our three core school values. In return, players are provided with an opportunity to participate in the school's basketball development program, compete in inter-school competitions and try out for elite basketball teams.

 

Enrolments are accepted throughout the year. Applicants are not expected to have any previous basketball experience, however previous participation in organised sport is highly regarded.

Basketball Academy Program

As part of the Physical Education Elective Design, students in Years 7-10 may enrol in the Basketball Academy Program.  Each semester students in:

  • Year 7-8 participate in a 30 minute training session per week
  • Year 9-10 train one lunchtime a week and Thursdays afterschool for 60 minutes.

Senior players have further opportunities and participate in:

  • refereeing & coaching
  • organising and facilitating events and competitions
  • Year 1 & 2 VCE/VET Sport & Recreation

All players build fundamental motor skills, improve their personal fitness levels, develop sound offensive and defensive structures and develop positive team building skills.

 

Fairhills Basketball Academy enters junior, intermediate and senior teams into the Victorian College Championships, the Victorian 3x3 and National Schools Championships.  Members of the Academy are also provided with opportunities to tour overseas.

 

Career Pathways

The skills attained by the successful completion of programs will give students a greater knowledge base in the sports and recreation industries, which will further enhance their achievement in both VCE and VET related studies should sports, fitness, heath or physical education be their desired field of study.

 

Upon successful completion of each course students will receive a Certificate of Attainment.

 

 

W.H.Glasson Stadium

In 2010, Fairhills High School, in association with the Knox Basketball Association built the $2 million, state-of-the art W.H Glasson Sports Stadium.

 

This highly impressive building has been designed for elite basketball programs and competitions and consists of:

  • two professional multipurpose courts
  • fitness room
  • a mezzanine
  • fitness room
  • inclusive changerooms
  • multi storage facilities
  • staff room
  • PCA and sound system 
  • carpark

During school hours the stadium is used for the Basketball Academy Program & Physical Education classes.  After hours the courts is primarily used by the Knox Basketball Association for training and competitions.

 

      

 

Personal Development

In addition to developing strong fundamentals and physical fitness, students will be provided with additional personal development opportunities. The Personal Development Program offered to students within the Academy will assist them to apply the interpersonal skills they develop both on and off the court.  Students attend leadership training sessions and develop skills such as leadership, positive self talk and conflict resolution.  These essential skills are reinforced through the academy's program and positions of responsibility within the school.

All academy players are expected to participate in co-curricular programs being offered within the school.
